one day it'll all make sense.

Squats suck.

Ok all you fitness fanatics, I need your help!  I’ve been sporty my whole life, an since getting into the crossfit stuff, I’m killing my knees.  I’ve run on pavement playing ball hockey for 10 years with no knee problems, now suddenly I feel like a 90-year-old at times.  😦  Granted, my Chelsea success yesterday came with 450 squats, but I’ve always been very careful to protect my knees and am a huge believer in keeping proper form in any sort of exercise I do.  Got home from work last night and parked my butt on the couch with an ice pack on the worst one, my right knee, but still have found going down the stairs at work pretty killer today.  Could be MS related, but I doubt it.  Ugh…

Any ideas?

  1. Whenever I’ve been running, I always follow the RICE principle. I quite often lie on the floor with my legs up (not a pretty sight I know). Do you do much stretching? Do you cool down adequately? I’m not perfect but always cool down properly and do my stretches.

    • Thanks for the suggestions John 🙂 When it comes to RICE, well… I’m pretty good at the “Ice” part, but not great at the rest of it generally. I stretch most of the time, and warm-up properly, but in terms of cool down I lack. Will find a way to make it part of the routine. I know I’m one of many who expects to put their body through hell, but forgets to take care to ensure it will be game to do it again! Haha lesson learned 🙂

  2. Ouch! I feel your pain. I have knee problems and sometimes struggle with lunges and squats…
I have been told before that strengthening the muscles around the knee and making sure your hips and quads are stretched and opened would help.
Maybe if you ask your crossfit instructor they would be able to give you some advice..
    And 450 squats? Impressive!
